For me, real estate practice is not just about the properties. It’s also about helping people, busy people with busy lives. I also believe that it is important to make a positive contribution to my community. Since 2007, I have been a volunteer at Homeward Pet Adoption Center, a no kill, non-profit animal shelter serving the greater Seattle area. As a Homeward volunteer, I walk the shelter dogs every week. It is a wonderful experience, and the dogs benefit from the socialization and human contact with the volunteers. One rainy January day I came to Homeward for my walking shift when I met a fabulous Anatolian Shepherd dog named Rocky. It was love at first sight and I knew in a moment that Rocky belonged in my family. Rocky became my real estate partner and has since gone off to doggie heaven, as has Rusty, my 12 year old Chesapeake Bay retriever rescued through Homeward. But now I have Libby, a four year old Pit Bull Terrier-type bundle of love, and Samantha, a 5 year old grey and white kitty who easily keeps Libby in line! The newest edition to the family is JOJO, a 9 year old Golden Retriever Rescue. I have also had the pleasure to serve on the Board of Directors and as Board Chair for Homeward Pet. Check them out at www.homewardpet.org. I currently am honored to serve on the Board of Directors for Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest who is home to 7 Chimpanzee’s rescued from labs. Read about this amazing organization and their compelling story at www.chimpsanctuarynw.org . My story tells how I came to combine two of my passions: real estate and animal rescue. That is why if YOU work with ME, I will DONATE10% of MY COMMISSION to the animal rescue or sanctuary of your choice. If you don’t pick one I will as EVERYONE NEEDS A HOME! My life’s work has always been about “finding” and “connecting.” In 1992 I earned a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and was a therapist for more than 15 years. Early in my career, I worked as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for The Adoption Resource Center at Children’s Home Society of Washington where I provided clinical services to adoption triad members (adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents). I discovered that I had a knack for finding birthparents for adoptees, and adoptees for birth-parents. Eventually, my private practice specialized in addressing the issues that surround the post-adoption Search & Reunion process. Having been through the search process myself, as an adoptee, I understand the unique challenges inherent with adoption. I expanded my practice with a contract from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to find missing Native American heirs to treaty rights owed them by the U.S. Government, finding missing persons and connecting them with their birth-right inheritance! As a licensed real estate broker, I work to find the perfect home for buyers, based on THEIR needs, and help sellers connect with the perfect buyer. I discovered I had a passion for real estate some time ago when I bought and sold my first home. Realizing I was actually quite excited by the process of buying and selling real estate, I educated myself about the market and real estate concepts. I took classes and workshops while investing in real estate myself. I discovered I have a real aptitude for finding real estate deals! I absolutely love the whole process of finding someone a home. At the animal rescue and sanctuaries I support there is a consistent mission to provide a loving and enriching environment to help the animals in need because, EVERYONE NEEDS A HOME!
